INDIANAPOLIS/YANGON, January 1, 2023 — The National University of the Union of Myanmar (NNUM)-Global Campus launches its website today to facilitate information sharing with current and future prospective students, parents and stakeholders.
“The website will bring us closer to realizing the vision of NUUM of a well-educated society in a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Myanmar in which all members have the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from civic and economic well-being locally to globally,” said Mr. Elaisa Vahnie who spearheaded the development of the University.
A collaborative initiative of people from diverse academic, ethnic and professional backgrounds, including faculty of universities in Myanmar, members of civil society organizations (CSOs), and others, joined by members of the Myanmar diaspora as well as friends of Myanmar from the United States and around the world, NUUM currently offers 12 certificate programs and various programs taught and implemented by over 90 teaching fellows, professors, and administrators.
In its effort to increase learning, teaching and research opportunities, NUUM also operates various centers and programs, including the Teaching Fellowship and Higher Education Leadership Program, Mentorship Program, Capstone Project, the Center for Holistic International Human Rights Law Praxis, and the Center for Research, Policy and Innovation.
“I am delighted that we are now able to launch the website with the inputs of all fellows and students at the University,” said Dr. Okka, a member of the Office of the President at NUUM.

The National University of the Union of Myanmar – Global Campus (NUUM) was established in July 2021 after consultation with its partners and stakeholders, especially with diverse groups of people in Myanmar. It currently offers over 12 certificate programs to Myanmar students through online courses taught by instructors from Myanmar as well as friends of Myanmar from around the globe. In addition to providing teaching, learning opportunities and training, NUUM contributes to reform efforts and building systems for future democratic institutions, serves as a hub for academic research, scholarship, and intellectual inquiry, and generates ideas for innovations and policy debate, in support of democracy in Myanmar.
